Before you call
Mini-split problems we diagnose on the first visit
Most mini-split failures fall into one of a few common buckets. Each has a different fix — and a very different price — so an accurate diagnosis matters before anyone pulls a part off the truck.
Water dripping from the indoor unit
Almost always a clogged condensate drain. Flush and treat, usually under 90 minutes.
Error code or blinking indoor light
We read manufacturer fault history directly with Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, and Daikin scan tools on the truck.
Running but not cooling the room
Usually low refrigerant from a slow leak, a dirty coil, or a stuck expansion valve.
Outdoor unit not starting
Often an inverter board, capacitor, or communication wiring issue — we isolate before replacing.
Weak airflow from the indoor head
Dirty blower wheel or blocked filter, sometimes a failing indoor fan motor.
R-22 or obsolete older system
Some 10+ year units can't legally be recharged. We'll tell you upfront if repair isn't the right call.
Heads up: If your system is down during Sacramento heat, calling is almost always faster than booking online.
Service details
The overview below explains how this service works, common problems we see, and what Sacramento homeowners should expect before scheduling.
Mini-split systems are reliable, but they do develop problems over time — especially when operating in Sacramento's extreme heat. PULSE HVAC technicians are trained on manufacturer-specific diagnostic procedures for all major mini-split brands.
Common Mini-Split Problems We Fix
Refrigerant Issues
- Low refrigerant from a slow leak (gradual decline in cooling performance)
- Refrigerant line damage from a puncture or poor installation
- Overcharged system causing high head pressure
Drainage Problems
- Clogged condensate drain (most common cause of water dripping from indoor unit)
- Improper drain slope from original installation
- Failed condensate pump on installations where gravity drain isn't possible
Electrical and Communication Faults
- Communication error between indoor and outdoor units (typically a wiring or control board issue)
- Failed inverter board in outdoor unit
- Faulty indoor unit PCB
- Sensor failures (ambient, pipe temperature, or humidity sensors)
Mechanical Issues
- Outdoor fan motor failure
- Compressor starting problems
- Expansion valve sticking or failing
- Dirty indoor coil blocking airflow
Mini-Split Brands We Service
- Mitsubishi Electric — Mr. Slim, M-Series, P-Series, City Multi
- Fujitsu — Halcyon residential and Airstage commercial
- Daikin — Aurora and LV series
- Carrier — 38MAQB and Infinity mini-split systems
- LG, Samsung, Gree, Pioneer — Most mini-split brands operating on R-410A or R-32
For brands where we can't source OEM parts, we'll advise on the best repair or replacement path.
When Repair Isn't the Right Call
For mini-splits under 5 years old, repair is almost always the right choice. For older systems, consider:
- If the outdoor compressor has failed on a 10+ year old system — compressor replacement cost often approaches the price of a new system
- If the refrigerant is R-22 — R-22 systems can't legally be recharged with new refrigerant; replacement is the only option
- If parts are no longer available — We'll tell you upfront if a unit is effectively obsolete
What to Expect During a Mini-Split Repair Visit
Our technicians arrive with manufacturer-specific scan tools capable of reading live diagnostic data from Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, and Daikin systems. We connect directly to the service port, read the fault history, and verify operating parameters before opening anything up. This diagnostic-first approach means we find the actual problem rather than guessing.
Most drain flushes and sensor replacements are completed in under 90 minutes. Refrigerant work or board replacement takes 2–3 hours. We confirm completion by running the system through a full cycle in your presence before we leave.
